Bears Earn 1-1 Tie with Cornell
Oct. 23, 2005
ITHACA, NY - Freshman leading scorer Lindsay Cunningham (Cumberland, RI) scored her fifth goal of the season to erase a 1-0 Cornell (7-5-1, 1-3-1) lead, as the Bears (5-7-2, 1-2-2) earned a 1-1 double overtime tie with the Big Red on Sunday afternoon.
Cornell took an early 1-0 lead when the Big Red scored on a rebound from in close, just 5:46 into the contest. Senior Hilary Wilson (Monterey, CA) got a piece of the shot, but couldn't prevent it from going into the net as Cornell took the first lead of the game.
With just over a minute remaining in the first half, junior Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) found Cunningham, who took a shot from about 20 yards out that went in at the upper right corner of the net, tying the game at 1-1.
The second half was a back and forth affair that saw momentum shift between the teams multiple times. Neither team could take control, however, and regulation came to a close with a tie score.
Both overtimes were much the same as the second half, with scoring opportunities for each team, none of which yielded a goal.
Wilson recorded 11 saves in net for the Bears, who continue action on Wednesday night, October 26, when they host cross-town rival Providence College at 7:00 p.m.
