PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown University women's soccer team (5-8) snapped a four-game skid on Wednesday evening with a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross (3-10) at Stevenson Field. Junior Christine Serdjenian (Waterville, ME) led the Bears with a goal and an assist.
After a scoreless first half, during which Brown outshot Holy Cross 17-2, Serdjenian gave the Bears a 1-0 lead just 39 seconds after the break. Senior Michelle Sriwongtong (Rosemead, CA) served a beautiful cross to Serdjenian and she went opposite corner for her third goal of the season.
Just 3:06 later, freshman Susie Keller (Cincinnati, OH) gained control of the ball and headed it to a streaking Meghan Schreck (Hudson, MA). Schreck dribbled down to the endline and took a low-angle shot that bounced off the Holy Cross goalie's hands and into the back of the net.
Then, less than ten minutes later, at 58:06, Serdjenian served a corner-kick into the box. Junior Kim LaVere (Chatsworth, CA) headed the ball into the back of the net for her first goal of the season and a 3-0 Brown lead.
The Bears held onto the 3-0 lead until the 83:15 mark when Holy Cross' Alison Peters spoiled junior Hilary Wilson's (Monterey, CA) shutout bid with a shot from nearly 20 yards out that sailed over Wilson.
For the game, Wilson finished with seven saves. Brown continues action on Saturday, October 23, when it hosts Cornell in a 7:30 p.m. Ivy League contest at Stevenson Field.
