Women's Soccer Battles To 1-1 Double Overtime Tie At Cornell

Oct. 20, 2001

ITHACA, NY - Brown (3-7-1, 0-3-1) and Cornell (2-5-3, 1-2-1) exchanged second-half goals and then remained tied through a pair of overtime sessions, leading to a 1-1 draw in an Ivy League contest Saturday afternoon at Cornell's Berman Field.

After a scoreless first half, the Bears got on the scoreboard when sophomore Molly Cahan (Encino, CA) tipped in the ball at 52:26 to the right side of the net after a scramble following a corner kick from classmate Michaela Sewall (Newton, MA).

Cornell followed just 10 minutes later to tie the contest and prove to be the final goal of the game. Both teams had many opportunities throughout the rest of the game, including a Cornell shot from 10 yards out and into an open Brown net. However, sophomore Kristin Ferrell (Concord, MA) slid in front of the net right before the ball could enter the goal and redirected the kick to the outside of the right post.

Senior goalkeeper Mary Jo Markle (West Chester, PA) played the entire game in net for Brown and made ten saves, as Brown was outshot 25-16.

The Bears will continue action on Saturday, October 27, when they host Penn in an Ivy League contest that begins at 7:00 p.m.
