Bears Battle Harvard to 0-0 Tie
Oct. 16, 2005
CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Brown women's soccer team (5-7-1, 1-2-1) picked up its fourth shutout of the season while battling Havard (6-3-3, 1-1-2) to a 0-0 tie on Ohiri Field. Stiff, cold winds and tough field conditions greeted the teams at the start of the game, which had been postponed from Saturday. The week of rain left the field soggy, while the winds - forecasted at upwards of 40 miles per hour on Sunday morning - had an effect throughout the game.
The Crimson carried the play in the first half with the wind at its back, and Brown senior keeper Hilary Wilson (Monterey, CA) was forced to make four saves in the opening frame, (and an additional two in the first overtime), with Harvard attacking the east goal.
Katie Shields had two saves in each of the regulation periods, but came up with her biggest save of the game with a little over two minutes remaining in the second overtime when junior Kathleen Waddell (Minnetonka, MA) had a point-blank shot on net. Less than a minute before, the Bears thought they had the game won when senior Meghan Schreck (Hudson, MA) scored on a corner play, but a foul was called on a Brown player and play continued.
The Bears donimated every facet of the game, outshooting Harvard, 19-14, including a 10-2 advantage in the second half, and holding a 6-1 lead in corner kicks. Wilson finished the game with nine saves, while earning her fourth shutout of the season.
The Bears return to action on Sunday, October 23, when they travel to Ithaca, NY to face Cornell at 12:00 noon.
