The Brown women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking decision to Princeton 1-0, after battling fellow Ivy League opponent to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation time. Senior Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) had a solid performance in goal, making 11 saves in net for the Bears.
Brown saw most of the action in their defensive end, with sophomore Robin Averbeck (Fond du Lac, WI) and sophomore Kim LaVere (Chatsworth, CA) holding together Bruno's defensive unit. Junior Michelle Sriwongtong (Rosemeas, CA) and senior Amy Baumann (Wyncote, PA) were active in pushing the ball out of the box and up field into Princeton's defensive end.
Sophomore Meghan Schreck (Hudson, MA) led the Bears with three shots, while senior captain Rachel Roberts (Sudbury, MA) worked hard to beat Princeton's low defense getting and creating scoring opportunities for Brown. Freshman Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) had a few near goals off of breakaways in the second period.
In goal, Gervais was impenetrable for 90 minutes of regulation play, seeing 26 shots from the Tigers. 2:04 into the first overtime period however, Princeton took advantage of a rebound and a screen in front of Brown's goal and placed the ball to the left-hand side of the net, just beating a diving Gervais.
Women's Soccer continues Ivy action away next Saturday Oct. 18th, 1:30pm against Harvard.
