Columbia Posts 1-0 Shutout over Bears
Sept. 28, 2007
NEW YORK, NY - The Brown women's soccer team (1-6-1, 0-1-0) dropped a 1-0 decision to Columbia (5-2-2, 1-0-0), the reigning Ivy Champs, on Friday evening in New York in the 2007 Ivy opener for both teams.
The two teams played a relatively even contest, with Brown holding a slight, 13-12, lead in shots. However, a goal from Chrissy Butler in the 28th minute would be all Columbia would need to post the 1-0 victory.
Brown also led Columbia in corner kicks, 5-1, while not allowing a single Lion corner in the second half.
Junior Lindsay Cunningham (Cumberland, RI) and sophomore Melissa Kim (Bethesda, MD) led Brown with three shots each, while freshman Sylvia Stone (Bronx, NY) and senior Kerrilynn Carney (North Smithfield, RI) each had two. Sophomore Steffi Yellin (Savannah, GA) finished the game with four saves, inluding three in the second half.
The Bears continue action on Sunday afternoon when they face Army at 1:00 p.m. in West Point.
