PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown women's soccer team (3-1-2, 0-0-1) played a hard-fought battle against Columbia (1-2-1, 0-1-1) on Saturday evening and came away with a 2-2 tie in double overtime.
Columbia got on the board in the 13th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead, but the Bears responded just 22 seconds later to knot the contest at 1-1. Senior Laura Iden (Kennilworth, NJ) battled for the ball in the corner and sent a high cross into the box, which junior Michaela Sewall (Newton, MA) headed into the back of the net.
Sophomore Kim Hagner (San Francisco, CA) connected with freshman Meghan Schreck (Hudson, MA) in nearly the same way, as Schreck scored her second goal of the season to give Brown a 2-1 lead at the 40:14 mark.
Columbia tallied the tying goal just 3:47 into the second half and neither team was able to convert the winning goal, sending the game into overtime, which also remained scoreless through two 10 minute sudden death periods.
In net for Brown, junior Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) stopped seven shots, while Janine Ierardi and Erissa Aronson combined for three Columbia saves.
The Bears continue action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Providence College for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
