Box Score

STOCKTON, CA - The Brown University women's soccer team (3-4-0) gave everything they had and more to the University of the Pacific (5-2-1), but fell to the Tigers, 1-0, with just 14 seconds left in double overtime in the first of two West Coast games for the Bears.

Brown and Pacific played an even-matched first-half of soccer and headed into half-time knotted 0-0, despite the Tigers holding a 9-6 shot advantage and a 6-0 margin in corner kicks.

Feeding off a few chances late in the first half, the Bears came out of the break with renewed energy after halftime. Pacific posted three quick shots on the Brown net, but after that, Bruno controlled the pace of play, keeping the ball on the attack for most of the second half.

Despite several chances by both teams late in regulation, the two squads headed into a sudden-victory overtime. Each team took one shot in the first 10:00 extra session, but couldn't find the back of the net and headed for a final 10:00 period.

Playing with the wind at their backs, the Tigers seemed to have a slight advantage over the Bears, but Brown's defense kept Pacific's attack at bay and appeared headed for a scoreless tie when Brown gained possession in its defensive end with less than 30 seconds to play.

However, a questionable foul call on a Brown defender just outside the box gave the Tigers a free kick from less than 20 yards out with 14 seconds left in the game. Nicci Leon booted the ball over a wall of Brown defenders and into the far corner, past a diving Hilary Wilson (Monterey, CA) for the 1-0 Pacific win.

Wilson recoded nine saves for Brown, in addition to several huge defensive plays on Pacific corner kicks and free kicks, to keep the Tigers off the board. Brown will look to salvage a split in its West Coast swing when it faces UC Davis at 3:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, September 18.
