Box Score

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown women's soccer team (0-3-1) battled Central Connecticut State to a 0-0 tie on Sunday afternoon in their second game of the 2007 UConn Classic. Brown outshot CCSU 19-12, including an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal, but could not find the back of the net. Sophomore Steffi Yellin (Savannah, GA) picked up her first career shutout with three saves, including one early in the second overtime.

The two teams played an even first half with Brown holding a slight, 7-6, lead in shots and a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Lindsay Cunningham (Cumberland, RI), who led all players with seven shots in the game, set the tone immediately, forcing CCSU's Caity Casey to make a save just 46 seconds into the contest.

Neither team could get into a rhythm early in the half, trading fouls and shots until the 31st minute when both teams began generating scoring chances and earning corner kicks.

The second half was mostly Brown, as the Bears held a 10-4 advantage in shots, including a 5-1 margin in shots on goal. The two teams traded scoring chances during the first 15 minutes of the half, with each team taking three shots. However, after Brown's only corner kick of the half, in the 63rd minute, momentum swung in the Bears' favor and they controlled the tempo while looking for the go-ahead goal.

CCSU didn't get another shot off until the 84:58 mark, which Yellin saved to force overtime.

Each team took two shots in the overtime as Brown took one in each of the 10 minute periods and CCSU had two in the second overtime. With 1:43 remaining in the first overtime, Casey made a save on junior Alex Michael (Pacific Palisades, CA) to keep Brown off the board.

In the next overtime, Yellin saved a free kick by Leah Blayney just 1:14 in to keep Central Connecticut off the board and then with 4:11 remaining, Casey made a stop on junior Jamie Mize (Washington, DC) to preserve the tie.

Cunningham and sophomore Melissa Kim (Bethesda, MD) were both selected to the UConn Classic All-Tournament Team.

After three straight road games, the Bears return home to Stevenson Field this Wednesday, September 19th, to host Boston University at 7:00 p.m. The game video will be streamed live over the internet.
