Bears Post Second Straight Shutout in 3-0 Win Over Lafayette
Sept. 9, 2005
HARWICH, MA - The Brown University women's soccer team (2-2-0) picked up its second straight shutout victory on Friday afternoon, cruising to a 3-0 win over Lafayette (1-1-1) in opening round action of the ECAC Classic on Cape Cod. Sophomore Susie Keller (Cincinnati, OH) led the Bears to the victory with the game-winning goal and an assist, earning Clancy's Restaurant Player of the Game honors for Brown.
Brown wasted little time in taking a 1-0 lead when Keller headed in a Jill Mansfield (East Windsor, NJ) flip-throw, scoring all Brown would need in the 3-0 victory. The goal was also the first of Keller's career, who tallied two assists as a rookie in 2004.
Less than 10 minutes later, at 24:48, Keller carried the ball up field and hit senior Meghan Schreck (Hudson, MA), with a great through-ball. Schreck knocked the ball for her first goal of the year, as Brown grabbed a 2-0 lead.
The Bears put the game away less than two minutes after half-time when junior Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) connected with freshman Lindsay Cunningham (Cumberland, RI), who chipped the ball into the far post for her first career goal.
Senior Hilary Wilson (Monterey, CA), who has not allowed a goal in over 180 minutes, had another strong performance in net for Brown with eight saves, earning her second straight shutout.
The Bears return to action on Sunday, September 11, when they face Fordham at 2:00 p.m. The Rams came back from a 2-0 half-time deficit to defeat UNH, 3-2, in Friday's first game.
