PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown University (0-1-1) and Holy Cross (0-1-2) played for 110 minutes, but a winner could not be decided as the Bears and Crusaders played to a 1-1 deadlock in a Northeast regional women's soccer contest at Brown University Sunday afternoon.
The Bears came out on fire, controlling the early part of the game before junior Hayley Sennott (Boxford, MA) got the Bears on the board with their first goal of the season. Classmate Michaela Sewall (Newton, MA) crossed the ball to Sennott from the top of the box and the streaking forward sent the ball into the opposite corner of the net, giving Brown a 1-0 lead at 24:21 of the first half.
However, the Crusaders tied the game at 1-1 just 5:03 later when Brandy Ault knocked in the rebound of a Kaitlin Hansen shot. For the next 60:36 neither team could score, despite several chances and great saves on both ends of the field, sending the game into sudden death overtime. The Bears and Crusaders failed to capitalize during the extra 20 minutes and the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Junior Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) made 11 saves in net for the Bears in 110 minutes of action. Brown travels to Cape Cod next weekend for the 2002 ECAC Tournament. The Bears face-off against Fairfield on Friday, September 13, at 4:00 p.m and Colgate on Sunday, September 15, at 2:00 p.m.
