Sept. 7, 2005
PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown University women's soccer team (1-2-0) posted its first victory of the 2005 season with a 1-0 win over Boston University (2-3-0), which is ranked sixth in the Northeast Region by SoccerBuzz, in a Northeast Regional Women's Soccer contest on Wednesday evening at Stevenson Field.
The Terriers dominated the game from the opening whistle, outshooting the Bears 25-10, including 13-5 in the first half, in what was a physical battle from start to finish.
However, Brown capitalized on its first shot of the game, converting a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead at exactly 19:00. Senior Christine Serdjenian (Waterville, ME) served the ball into the box to sophomore Andrea Pagnanelli (Huntington Beach, CA), who was on the far post. Pagnanelli one-timed the ball into the back of the net, low and at the near post, scoring all Brown would need in the 1-0 victory.
With under 20:00 to play, the Terriers had two near misses, hitting the crossbar twice in a span of five minutes. Brown senior goalie Hilary Wilson (Monterey, CA) also stood tall in net, stopping several shots from point-blank range late in the game, as Brown held on for the win.
Wilson recorded 14 saves between the posts for Brown, including eight in the second half. BU keeper Stephanie Dreyer stopped five shots for the Terriers. The Bears travel to Harwich, MA this weekend to take part in the ECAC Classic on Cape Cod. Brown will face Lafayette on Friday, September 9, at 4:00 p.m. and Fordham on Sunday, September 11, at 2:00 p.m.
