Sept. 7, 2003
The Brown women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2003 season on Sunday afternoon, defeating Holy Cross, 2-0, in Worcester, MA. With the victory, the Bears improved to 1-0-1, while posting their second shutout in a row, after tying The University of Vermont, 0-0, on Friday night.
Bruno took a 1-0 lead on a goal from junior Kim Hagner (San Francisco, CA) at 17:32 of the first half, which would prove to be the game-winner. Freshman Jill Mansfield (East Windsor, NJ) earned an assist on the goal to notch her first collegiate point.
Less than 20 minutes later, senior Kristin Gladney (Barrington, RI) added an insurance goal, scoring her first career goal for the Bears at 36:19.
Senior goalie Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) was forced to make just one save as the Brown defense held the Crusaders to just three shots on net. The Bears continue action on Tuesday, September 9, hosting Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
