Sept. 6, 2002

PROVIDENCE, RI - The New Hampshire Wildcats (2-1) scored once in each half to defeat host Brown (0-1) in a Northeast regional women's soccer contest at Brown University Friday evening.

After nearly a half of scoreless action, the Wildcats got on the board in the 37th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Angeline Alexakos shot the ball over junior goalkeeper Sarah Gervais' (Harrisville, RI) head from 25-yards out to put UNH on top heading into the second half.

The Bears had several opportunities in the second half to knot the game, but the Wildcats scored on nearly an identical shot as their first goal to gain a 2-0 lead with just 7:53 remaining in the contest. Ana Tobon notched her second goal of the season for UNH, giving the Wildcats the two-goal advantage.

For Brown, senior captain Caitlin Carey (Boxford, MA) led Brown with five shots, while Gervais finished with six saves in 90 minutes of action.

The Bears continue action on Sunday, September 8, when they host Holy Cross at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
