Box Score

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown University (2-0-0) women's soccer team earned its second straight shutout with a 2-0 victory over George Mason (1-2-1) on Sunday afternoon at Stevenson Field in a non-league contest. Freshman Anne Friedland (Toronto, ONT) scored her first career goal in the 37th minute to give the Bears a 1-0 lead, and they never looked back.

After nearly an entire half of scoreless action, during which George Mason pressured Brown relentlessly, the Bears broke the 0-0 tie at 36:25 with Friedland's goal. Junior co-captain Meghan Schreck (Hudson, MA) controlled the ball near the left sideline and crossed it to Friedland, who had only one defender to beat. She dribbled past her defender and fired the ball past George Mason's Olivia Brown into the opposite corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, the Bears took a 2-0 lead when freshman Andrea Pagnanelli (Huntington Beach, CA) netted her first career goal. After the ball deflected out of the box off a George Mason defender, Pagnanelli was waiting 25 yards out to send the ball back in. She lofted the shot over the keeper's head into the top left corner as Brown gained a two goal advantage.

The Patriots pressured Brown again during the final 20 minutes of the game, but the Bears' defense held on and shut down George Mason until the final whistle.

In net for the Bears, junior Hillary Wilson (Monterey, CA) stopped nine shots to earn her second shutout in a row. The Bears continue action on Friday, September 10, when they travel to Cape Cod to face Cal Poly at 4:00 p.m. in the ECAC Tournament.
