PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer will host 11 home games and make a trip to the state of California to open its season as part of its 17-match 2018 schedule, which begins on Aug. 24, Brown head coach Kia McNeill announced on Thursday.
The Bears begin their season on the West Coast with games at Pepperdine (Aug. 24) and UC Santa Barbara (Aug. 26), host four Ivy League opponents, and play seven home games from Aug. 31 to Sept. 29.
After returning from California, Brown entertains Sacred Heart in its home opener on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m. The team concludes its home-opening weekend with a match-up against Villanova (Sept. 2). The club then plays at crosstown rival Providence College on Sept. 6, beginning a stretch of six matches against New England opponents.
The Bears open a four-match home stand against Holy Cross on Sept. 9 prior to hosting Vermont (Sept. 13), Ocean State adversary Rhode Island (Sept. 16), and UMass Lowell (Sept. 22).
Brown then opens Ivy League play at Dartmouth (Sept. 22) before hosting Columbia (Sept. 29) in its Ancient Eight home opener.
Following a match-up at Princeton (Oct. 6), the squad hosts back-to-back home contests against Harvard (Oct. 13) and Cornell (Oct. 21). The team plays its final regular season road game at Penn on Oct. 27.
The Bears play their final two regular season matches at home, facing Delaware State (Oct. 30) in their non-conference finale and Yale (Nov. 3) in their Senior Night game at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Third-year head coach Kia McNeill returns five All-Ivy student-athletes – including senior captains Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) and Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) – from a 2017 team that went 11-5-0, giving the Bears their most wins since going 13-4-0 in 2000.
