PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer goalkeeper Christine Etzel '19 and forward/midfielder Celia Story '19 will serve the Bears as captains for the 2018-19 academic year, Brown head coach Kia McNeill announced on Thursday.
Now a two-year captain, Etzel (Madison, Conn.) enters the 2018 season ranked third on Brown's career shutouts list with 19 shutouts, fourth on Brown's career wins list with 27 wins, and 10th on Brown's career saves list with 209 saves.
A three-time All-Ivy selection, this past season Etzel gained Honorable Mention All-Ivy and Second Team NEWISA All-New England accolades. In Ivy play, she ranked second in the conference in shutouts (four), third in goals-against average (.561), and third in save percentage (.879).
Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) has earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors in each of the last two seasons. In 2017, she ranked ninth in the Ivy League in points (15) and fifth in assists (five), while standing second on the team in goals (five) and third in points and assists. She scored two game-winning goals on a pair of penalty kicks.
The duo helped Brown post an 11-5-0 record in the 2017 season, giving the Bears their most wins since going 13-4-0 in 2000. Brown also set a single-season program record with four overtime victories.
The Bears will open their slate for the fall of 2018 in late August.
