Women’s Soccer’s Schmidt Gains CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University women's soccer senior defender Katy Schmidt has gained CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District accolades for the second straight year, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.

A native of Corvallis, Ore., Schmidt started as the team's right back in all 16 games this season and in 31 of the Bears' last 32 contests. She garnered Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors this fall.

An Engineering concentrator, Schmidt played 1,411 of a possible 1,475 minutes in 2017 and helped the Bears post four shutouts in Ivy League play for the first time since 1992. A weapon for Brown with her long throw-ins, she contributed to the team's six total shutouts on the year.

In order to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must participate as a starter or an important reserve, have reached sophomore academic standing, and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
