NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bulldogs' Michelle Alozie scored the lone goal of the game in the 81st minute as Brown University women's soccer fell at Yale University, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Reese Stadium in its season finale.
The Bears (11-5-0, 4-3-0) still finished their season with their most wins since going 13-4-0 in 2000, but the host Bulldogs (11-4-2, 4-2-1 Ivy) concluded the year unbeaten at home with a 6-0-2 record.
Alozie netted her ninth goal of the year at the 80:54 mark to lift Yale to the win. After Sarah McCauley flicked on a punt, Ciara Ostrander fed Alozie who carried the ball into the penalty area and slotted a shot along the ground into the left side of the goal.
Brown pressured the Yale defense inside of the final nine minutes, tallying five shots and two corner kicks, but the visitors could not break through in the contest's waning moments.
Yale goalkeeper Alyssa Fagel made three saves in the win (8-3-2) for her fifth shutout of the season.
Brown junior goalkeeper Christine Etzel (Madison, Conn.) stopped four shots in the setback (11-5-0).
For the match, Brown held a 15-11 advantage in shots while Yale led in shots on goal, 5-3. Both teams took nine corners.
All seven of Brown's Ivy League games this season came down to one-goal margins. Overall, one goal decided 13 of Brown's 16 games this fall, including the team's last nine contests of the year.
