Women’s Soccer Blanks Quinnipiac, 1-0, in Season Opener
HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior Mika Siegelman (Piedmont, Calif.) found the back of the net just 13 minutes into the contest and the defense to care of the rest as the Brown women's soccer team downed Quinnipiac, 1-0, in the season opener Friday afternoon at the QU Soccer Field.
Brown opens the season at 1-0-0 overall while the Bobcats drop to 0-3-0 on the season.
The Bears took control on offense from the start and outshot the Bobcats by a 7-2 margin in the opening stanza. Siegelman put the Bears on the board at 12:14 for the early advantage, while junior Chloe Cross (Seattle, Wash.) set up the play and was credited with an assist.
In the second half, Brown continued to find open looks with eight shots in the stanza, while the backline limited the Bobcats to just three chances and none were on target. Brown held a 15-5 shot advantage in the contest while the two teams recorded four corner kicks apiece.
Seniors Amber Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio) and MC Barrett (Ithaca, N.Y.) split time in net with each playing a half to earn the combined shutout. Bledsoe picked up the victory and made one save to move to 1-0-0 on the season. Cross and Siegelman paced the offensive attack with three shots apiece.
The Bears return home on Sunday Sept. 8 when they host St. John's in the home opener for a 1 p.m. contest at Stevenson Field.
