Women’s Soccer Drops Second Straight 1-0 Overtime Decision, Falls to Penn

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Penn's Megan York connected on a pass from Erin Thayer in the fifth minute of overtime to help lift the Quakers (9-5-1, 5-1-0) to a 1-0 win over the Brown women's soccer team (7-8-0, 1-5-0) on Saturday evening.

York's game-winner was set up when Thayer played a long ball into the box. The ball ended up at York's feed about 12 yards away from the goal and she fired a shot that beat junior Amber Bledsoe (Cincinnati, OH) inside the far post.

The Quakers' best chance came early on when a cross from the right side was pushed back across the goal by Kerry Scalora and looked like it was headed for the inside of the far post. However, Bledsoe dove to her left to made the save, keeping the game scoreless.

Later in the first half, Bledsoe made another big save, stopping Erin Mikolai from close range.

The Bears were led by sophomore Chloe Cross (Seattle, WA), who had two shots, including one on goal, while junior Louisa Pitney (Washington, DC) also had a shot on goal, as Penn's Sarah Banks made two saves.

Brown continues action on Thursday evening, November 1st, when it hosts Yale in a 7:00 p.m. Ivy League contest. The game will be televised live on the Fox Soccer Channel.
