Women's Soccer Closes Out Three-Game Homestand Sunday vs. Cornell

The Brown women's soccer team (6-6) will play the last of three consecutive home contests on Sunday, October 21st, when it takes on the Cornell Big Red (1-11-1) at 3:00pm on Stevenson Field. Both teams enter the match-up looking for their first Ivy League victory of the season. Cornell was shutout by Yale, 1-0, in Ithaca, NY on Saturday, after tying Harvard, 1-1, a week earlier.  Brown played two games last week, loosing a close, non-conference match against Dartmouth, 1-0, on Tuesday, and then suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Harvard in league play on Saturday. Freshman Erin Katz (Montgomery, AL) scored the Bears' lone goal against the Crimson, while junior Amber Bledsoe (Cincinnati, OH) made five saves during a scoreless first half.

About Brown: The Bears are led in scoring by sophomore Chloe Cross (Seattle, WA) and junior Mika Siegelman (Piedmont, CA), both with eight points. Senior captain Eliza Marshall (North, Andover, MA) and junior Louisa Pitney (Washington, DC) have each scored a goal and contributed two assists for four points on the season. In testament to the depth of the roster, three additional Bears have netted a goal for the squad, while four additional players have contributed at least one assist. Juniors MC Barrett (Ithaca, NY) and Amber Bledsoe (Cincinnati, OH) continue to split time in goal for Brown, combining for 65 saves. Barrett has a GAA of 1.82 and a save percentage of .773, while Bledsoe has a GAA of 0.62, 22nd in the nation, and a .886 save percentage, 10th in the nation.

Last time vs. Cornell: Brown struck early, scoring two goals in the first half, and MC Barrett '14 played a strong second half, making three saves, to lift the Bears to a 2-1 victory over Cornell last season. Eliza Marshall '13 put Brown on the board less than eight minutes into play when she scored her sixth goal of the season off of a feed from Gloria Chun '12. After a Cornell goal was negated when the play was ruled offsides, the Bears responded with their second goal of the contest, as Diana Ohrt '13 capitalized on a corner kick by Maddie Wiener '14. Cornell rallied back halfway through the second half, as Kerry Schubert connected on the rebound of a shot from Maneesha Chitanvis. MC Barrett stopped four of the five shots she faced, including a penalty kick, while Megan Bartlett and Kelly Murphy combined for two saves in the Cornell goal.

About Cornell: Two seniors lead the Big Red in scoring this season, as Maneesha Chitanvis and Xandra Hompe both have ten points. Chitanvis also leads the team in goals with four, while Hompe has scored three times, including one game-winning goal. Jayann Gabrio has netted two goals, while eight other players have contributed at least two points. Tori Christ has started thirteen games in goal for the Big Red, playing a total of 1214:10 and making 74 saves. She has a GAA of 2.30 and a save percentage of .750.

Up Next: The Bears will travel to Harvard on Tuesday, October 24th to take on the Crimson in a non-conference contest. The game will begin at 7:00pm at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Cambridge, MA.
