Women's Soccer Travels to Northeastern for Thursday Evening Game

PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown closes out its three-game road swing on Thursday night when it travels to Massachusetts to face Northeastern in a 6:00 p.m. contest. The Bears are coming off a 1-0 win over Vermont, in which junior Mika Siegelman (Piedmont, CA) scored the game's only goal in the 24th minute of play to live Brown to the victory. Juniors Amber Bledsoe '14 (Cincinnati, OH) and MC Barrett (Ithaca, NY) combined for four saves in helping to lead Bruno to its third shutout of the year, while Siegelman's goal was her second game-winner of the young season.

ABOUT BROWN: The Bears are currently led by sophomore Chloe Cross (Seattle, WA), who has six points (3g), and juniors Mika Siegelman (Piedmont, CA) and Louisa Pitney (Washington, DC), who each have four points. Senior Eliza Marshall (North Andover, MA) is fourth on the team with three points (1g, 1a), while junior Alison Mullin (Boulder, CO) joins Pitney to lead the team with two assists. Junior Amber Bledsoe (Cincinnati, OH) has started all four games in net and has earned a 0.50 GAA with an .875 save percentage, stopping seven of eight shots. Classmate MC Barrett (Ithaca, NY) has played the second half of each contest and has posted a 1.00 GAA with an .895 save percentage, recording 17 saves on 19 shots. Through four games, Brown has played 25 members of the team, including seven freshmen, who have made their collegiate debuts.

LAST TIME VS. NORTHEASTERN: Brown and Northeastern last met on September 3, 2010, as part of Dartmouth's Nike Invitational in Hanover, NH, in what was the Bears' 2010 season opener. Veronica Napoli scored the lone goal of the game, while Michelle Sopko made six saves to help the Huskies post the shutout. Brown's Amber Bledsoe '14 (Cincinnati, OH) and MC Barrett '14 (Ithaca, NY), then freshmen, combined for four saves.  

ABOUT NORTHEASTERN: The Huskies enter Thursday's game with a 1-5 record, having dropped a pair of games last week to #6 Boston College, 2-0, and to Dayton, 3-1. After opening the year with three straight losses, Northeastern picked up its first win of the season, a 3-2 victory over New Hampshire on August 31st. The Huskies are led by Greta Samuelsdottir, who has 5 points (2g, 1a) in six games, and Lahaina Zoller, who has 3 points (1g, 1a) in six games. Bianca Calderone and Awnalisa Walker have each scored one goal, while three players have tallied one assist. Paige Burnett has played the majority of time in net for Northeastern and has a 2.47 GAA with a .694 save percentage.

UP NEXT: Brown returns home on Sunday, September 16th, to host Sacred Heart in a 4:00 p.m. contest. Anyone who brings a canned food item to the game will receive free admission. All donations collected with be distributed to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
