PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown junior Eliza Marshall (North Andover, MA), of the women's soccer team, was named one of nine RIAIAW Distinguished Student-Athletes of the Year. Each year, RIAIAW (The Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women) names one Distinguished Student-Athlete of the Year from each of the state's nine schools. The award is based upon athletic excellence, academic success, and leadership qualities.
Marshall finished the 2011 season as the Bears' leading scorer with 15 points (6g, 3a), including two game-winning goals (5th in the Ivy League). An Honorable Mention All-Ivy honoree at the conclusion of the season, Marshall was a Second Team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District honoree and an Academic All-Ivy recipient. A two-time selection to the Ivy League weekly honor roll in 2011, Marshall was elected as the 2012 Captain. In 46 career games, 34 starts, Marshall has 21 career points (8g, 5a).
Making her mark off the field, she is the team academic peer liaison, an elementary school tutor, and a youth soccer coach. In addition, she is a campus ambassador for Team Impact, and was an associate for the RI General Treasurer. A Political Science concentrator, Marshall currently has a 4.0 GPA.
