First Half Goal Holds Up for Yale, as Bulldogs Hand Women’s Soccer 1-0 Loss

NEW HAVEN, CT – Yale's Emma Mullo scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal late in the first half to lift the Yale women's soccer team (9-5-3, 4-2-1) to a 1-0 victory over the Bears (10-5-2, 3-3-1) on Saturday afternoon in the season finale for both teams. The Bears finish with a winning record for the second consecutive season, while posting at least 10 wins for the first time since 2003 when Brown was 10-4-2.

The game-winner game when Mullo took a through ball from Melissa Gavin near midfield, split three Bears' defenders, raced into the box, and fired a shot into the top right corner at the 39:30 mark.

After Yale grabbed the lead, Brown had the better of the play the rest of the way but couldn't get the equalizer. Yale's goalie Elise Wilcox made eight of her 10 saves in the second half with her best stop coming early in the second half when she dove to her right to deny freshman Chloe Cross (Seattle, WA), who led the Bears with five shots.

Brown outshot Yale, 16-15, including a 10-7 margin in shots on goal. The Bears also earned six corners to Yale's one. Sophomore MC Barrett (Ithaca, NY) recorded six saves, including four in the first half.
