DURHAM, NH – Freshman Chloe Cross (Seattle, WA) scored her first career goal in the 84th minute to snap a 0-0 deadlock and lift the unbeaten Brown women's soccer team (4-0-1) to a 1-0 victory over the University of New Hampshire (1-6) on Thursday afternoon at Lewis Fields. Brown's sophomore goaltending duo of Amber Bledsoe (Cincinnati, OH) and MC Barrett (Ithaca, NY) helped the Bears post their third shutout with one save each.
The Bears dominated the first half, outshooting the Wildcats, 9-2, including a 6-0 advantage during the game's first 10 minutes, and an 8-1 margin in shots on goal during the frame. For the game, Brown outshot UNH, 12-4, and also held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-1.
After playing through a 0-0 tie for the majority of the game, the Bears appeared to be headed for their second straight overtime contest. However, Cross provided the winning tally with just 6:07 left to play in regulation and Brown held on for the win.
Cross tracked down a ball on the right flank, beating her defender one-on-one, and firing a shot from the top of the box that found its way into the left side of the net, past a diving Erica Correra.
Sophomore Maddie Wiener (Portland, OR) led the Bears with three shots, while four other players all had a pair of shots.
Brown returns home to Stevenson Field to host Sacred Heart on Sunday, September 18, in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
