PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown freshman women's soccer midfielder Louisa Pitney (Washington, DC) has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, marking the second straight week and fifth time this season that Brown has earned a Rookie of the Week. It is also Pitney's second Rookie of the Week honor this season and comes after she helped to lead Brown to a 2-0-0 week with wins over Rhode Island (3-0) and Harvard (2-1).
Against the defending Ivy Champion Crimson, Pitney played a part in both Brown goals to help the Bears secure their first League win of the year. Trailing, 1-0, Pitney took a corner kick that found sophomore Diana Ohrt (Simi Valley, CA) for the score, tying the game 10 minutes after Harvard had taken a 1-0 lead. The two teams battled to the wire in the second half, but Pitney's second goal of the season lifted the Bears to the win. Classmate Mika Siegelman (Piedmont, CA) placed a perfect cross through the box that found Pitney back-door. Pitney timed her jump perfectly, and nailed the far corner with a header for her second career game-winning goal with 6:47 left to play.
Her contributions in the midfield against Rhode Island on Wednesday, were instrumental in helping to lead Brown to its fifth shutout of the season. Following the week, Pitney moved up to fourth on the team in scoring with 7 points (2g, 3a) and tied for first on the team with 2 game-winning goals.
Brown returns to action on Sunday afternoon when it hosts
Cornell in a 2:00 p.m. Ivy League contest.
