Three Brown Women's Soccer Players Named All-Ivy

PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown University seniors Bridget Ballard (Los Angeles, CA) and Melissa Kim (Bethesda, MD), and sophomore Allison Kagawa (Mililani, HI) have been named to the 2009 All-Ivy Women's Soccer Team as selected by the League's eight head coaches. Ballard was named to the First Team, while Kim earned Second Team honors. Kagawa was recognized as an Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection.  

A three-time All-Ivy honoree, Ballard was named to the First Team after earning Second Team honors in 2008 and Honorable Mention honors in 2007. Ballard started all 15 games this season at center-back, while playing every minute of every game. A dominant player, Ballard was also recognized for her off-field achievements, earning CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District honors this year after earning Second Team honors a year ago. An Academic All-Ivy honoree in 2008, Ballard played in 62 career games, starting all 62, while missing just four career games, all due to injury. A member of the Brown women's swimming team as well, Ballard finished her career with 11 points (3g, 5a).

Kim is making her first appearance on the All-Ivy team this season. A Third Team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection this year, Kim played in 14 games, starting all 14, while missing one due to injury. She finished tied for third on the team in scoring with six points (2g, 2a) to bring her career numbers to 30 points (10g, 10a). A dominant midfielder, Kim finished among the top five scorers on the team in each of her four seasons, playing in 62 games and starting 59. She finished her career ranked 18th at Brown for career assists.

Kagawa, who is also making her first appearance on the All-Ivy team this year, started all 15 games in the backfield after starting all 17 last season. A strong defender, Kagawa played a big role in helping to lead the Bears to four shutouts this season, as the defense combined to post a 1.43 goals against average.
