Women's Soccer Falls to Harvard, 1-0, in Overtime

CAMBRIDGE, MA - Katherine Sheeleigh scored a goal in the 93rd minute off a corner kick from Melanie Baskind to give Harvard (6-5-1, 3-0-0) a 1-0 overtime victory against the Brown women's soccer team (4-7-0, 1-3-0) Saturday afternoon at Ohiri Field.

After a scoreless first half in which Brown earned six of nine corner kicks and each team mustered six shots apiece, the Crimson and Bears earned quality scoring chances in the second stanza.

Late in the 70th minute, junior Gina Walker (Canyon Country, CA) hit the crossbar, and senior Melissa Kim (Bethesda, MD) followed moments later with a shot that was blocked in front by the Harvard defense.  Less than two minutes later, Harvard's Christina Hagner gave the Crimson their best chance of the half, but her shot from inside the box was blocked.

In overtime, Brown almost scored a golden goal, when sophomore Marybeth Lesbirel (Holmdel, NJ) booted a hard shot from 30 yards out. However, Harvard goalkeeper Lauren Mann leapt and deflected the ball off the crossbar before taking control and clearing.

Senior Brenna Hogue (Concord, MA) made two saves in the first 45 minutes, while classmate Steffi Yellin (Savannah, GA) stopped two shots in the final 47:42.

The Bears continue action this Tuesday, October 20th, when they travel to Holy Cross for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
