PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown freshmen lacrosse players Kiki Manners (North Potomac, MD) and Molly McCarthy (Scituate, MA) were named 2007 Second Team IWLCA All-Region. Manners and McCarthy are two of just five freshmen in the Northeast Region to receive this honor, while nationally, just eight total freshmen were named Second Team All-Region and one freshman was named First Team All-Region for a total of just nine out of the 128 recognized nationally. This also marks the first time that Brown has had a freshman earn recognition, Christine Anneberg '04 and Kate Staley '06 both earning All-Region honors as sophomores. Both Manners and McCarthy also earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors this season.
Manners helped to lead the Brown defense this season, while also sparking many transitions as one of the fastest players on the field. A tough one-on-one defender, Manners led Brown with 21 caused turnovers and ranked third on the team with 22 ground balls. She also picked up eight points at the other end of the field with two goals and six assists.
McCarthy finished an outstanding first year for the Bears, anchoring the midfield, while taking the majority of the team's draws. She led Brown with 35 points (10g) and 25 assists, ranking fourth in the Ivy League and 24th in the nation with 1.57 assists per game. She was also second on the team with 20 draw controls and fourth on the team with 20 ground balls. McCarthy's 25 assists this season ranks fourth all-time at Brown.
