The Brown women's lacrosse team will look to rebound from an 11-7 loss to Hofstra when it hosts Albany in a 1:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, March 7, at the Berylson Family Fields. The game is the first-ever meeting between the two schools, as Albany is one of three opponents that Brown will face for the first time this season, joining Oregon and Bryant.
In last Saturday's game against Hofstra, the Bears were behind by as many as 11-3 early in the second half. However, Brown scored three straight goals in a span of 8:27 to make it 11-6 with 14:44 remaining. Despite keeping the Pride off the board for the final 25:37 of the game, Hofstra was able to clamp down defensively, limiting Brown to its final goal with just 4:36 left to play, and the Bears could get no closer. Brown was led by seniors Lauren Vitkus and Bethany Buzzell, who each scored twice in the loss, while freshman Kaela McGilloway, sophomore Alexa Caldwell, and senior Jesse Nunn also scored. Junior Molly McCarthy picked up her first two assists of the season against Hofstra, and is now tied for 8th all-time at Brown with 34 career assists. Freshman Isabel Harvey stopped 12 shots in net.
Saturday marks Albany's fourth straight road game, as the Great Danes opened their season with three straight games in California, playing at St. Mary's (W, 14-9), Stanford (L, 15-10), and Cal (L, 14-9). The game is their first contest since the Cal game, which was February 20th. Albany is led by junior Kayla Best, who has 9-2-11 totals, while junior Julie Bush is second on the team with 7 points (3g, 4a).
