March 4, 2005
The Brown women's lacrosse team opens its 2005 season, tomorrow, March 5, beginning a new era. Head Coach Keely McDonald, a 2000 Brown University graduate, and the Bears will face Northeast rival Holy Cross in a 10:30 a.m. contest at the Erickson Athletic Complex. Brown has never lost against the Crusaders, with an 11-0-0 record against Holy Cross, including a 15-3 victory last season.
The Bears enter the season with high expectations for McDonald's first season as a head coach. The team has a renewed sense of energy and will rely on a solid mix of youth and experience in the Ivy race.
Junior co-captain Kate Staley, last season's leading scorer, returns to anchor the midfield along with sophomores Amie Biros and Jen Redd. Senior Sarah Passano and junior Ashley Holden will look to lead the attack, while junior Meg Sullivan will help to lead Brown's young defense. Senior co-captain Julia Southard and junior Jessica McNell return to lead the Bears between the pipes, while newcomers Melissa King and Erin Walters will compete for time in net.
