Providence, RI - The Brown University women's lacrosse team (3-11, 1-6) dropped a 13-9 decision to Harvard on Wednesday evening at Stevenson Field in the final Ivy League contest of the season for both teams.
Brown took a quick 1-0 lead when junior Lindsey Glennon (Exeter, NH) scored just 2:40 into the contest. However, Harvard would reel off seven straight goals over the next 21:42 to take a 7-1 lead with 5:38 remaining in the first half. Sophomore Amie Biros (Bethesda, MD) and junior Kate Staley (Needham, MA) scored back-to-back goals just 37 seconds apart to close the Crimson's lead to 7-3 with 4:05 left to play. On the ensuing play, an apparent Brown goal that would have made the score 7-4, was called back on a Brown offsides call.
The Crimson closed the half with two goals in a span of 12 seconds to take a 9-3 lead into the break.
Brown outscored Harvard 6-4 in the second half, but could get no closer than three goals in the final 30:00. Junior Meg Sullivan (Garden City, NY) scored her first of the season 1:30 into the half and Staley added her second of the game less than two minutes later to cut Harvard's lead to 9-5.
A goal by Harvard's Tara Schoen, who led all goal scorers with six goals, just 21 seconds later, regained the five goal cushion for the Crimson with 26:16 remaining. Staley scored back-to-back goals just 2:50 apart, cutting the lead to 10-7, but that was as close as Brown could get, as Harvard outscored the Bears 3-2 in the final 12:10.
Senior Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) stood strong in net, posting 13 saves.
The Bears close out the season on Saturday, May 7, when they host Ohio in a 1:00 p.m. match. The contest marks the final career game for seniors Southard, Kenley Bradstreet (Southboro, MA), and Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD).
