PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown women's lacrosse team (5-8, 1-5) dropped a 10-6 decision to the top-ranked Princeton Tigers (15-1, 7-0) on Saturday afternoon in an Ivy League contest at Stevenson Field.
Princeton grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 3:11 mark of the first half, however sophomore Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL) responded for the Bears at 4:33, tying the game at 1-1.
The Tigers answered with three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead at the 11:26 mark, but Pierpont assisted a goal by freshman Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD) and junior Bekah Rottenberg (Colrain, MA) scored her first of two goals to bring Brown to within one midway through the half.
Princeton increased its lead to three goals for a second time, scoring back-to-back goals at 25:31 and 26:45, but the Bears fought back with goals at 27:49, Rottenberg's second, and at 28:52, a free position goal from junior Jocelyn Moore (Washington, DC), to come to within one at the intermission.
Princeton tallied less than a minute into the second half to take a 7-5 lead, but neither team was able to score for the next 17:53, when the Tigers tallied their eighth of the game, staring a three-goal unanswered streak.
Sophomore leading scorer Christine Anneberg (Denver, CO) scored the final Brown goal with just over two minutes remaining for the final, 10-6.
The Bears continue action on Wednesday when they travel to Harvard for a 7:00 p.m. contest, as they close out the 2002 season in Cambridge.
