NEW HAVEN, CT - The Brown women's lacrosse team (4-6, 1-3) fell to Yale on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 22-10.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead just 37 seconds into the contest goal by junior Bekah Rottenberg (Colrain, MA), but the Bulldogs responded with four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead with 20:38 remaining in the first half.
Junior Jocelyn Moore (Washington, DC) brought Brown to within two with her first of three goals just 16 seconds later, but Yale scored eight straight goals to take a 12-2 lead with 12:12 remaining in the half. The two teams traded goals over the remainder of the half with sophomores Christine Anneberg (Denver, CO) and Meredith Goodell (Baltimore, MD) each scoring for the Bears.
Yale started the second half leading 14-4 and added two quick goals to start the half, and the two teams traded goals at 26:36 and 25:53, putting the score at 17-5 with nearly 26 minutes left to play.
Anneberg and Moore scored back-to-back goals at 21:21 and 19:06 to bring Brown to within 10, but the Bulldogs scored three more unanswered goals to take a 20-7 lead with 11:18 remaining. The Bears came to within 10 again on goals by junior Courtney Johnson (Falmouth, MA), Goodell, and Anneberg, but Yale closed out the game with two goals for the final 22-10.
In net, senior Niki Caggiano (Freeport, NY) made nine saves in 45 minutes, while junior Randi Macdonald (Baltimore, MD) made one save in four minutes. Freshman Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) played for 11 minutes.
The Bears continue action on Saturday when they travel to Penn for an Ivy contest at noon.
