ITHACA, NY - The Brown University women's lacrosse team (3-7, 1-2) dropped an 11-8 decision to #14 Cornell on Friday afternoon in Ithaca, NY. Sophomore Amie Biros (Bethesda, MD), the reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, led the Bears with three goals and one assist in the loss.
The Big Red spotted Brown two goals in the opening eight minutes as senior Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD) and Biros each scored for the Bears. However, Cornell would close the half with a 5-1 run to take a 5-3 lead heading into the break.
The two teams traded goals three times during the first 13:00 of the second half, with sophomore Jen Redd (Towson, MD), junior Ashley Holden (Alexandria, VA), and junior Kate Staley (Needham, MA) all scoring for Brown, as the Bears stayed within two goals, 8-6.
However, the Big Red reeled off two straight goals to increase their lead to 10-6, before Holden closed the gap to three goals with her second of the game with 8:57 left to play.
Cornell and Brown each scored once more in the remaining 8:29 for the final, 11-8.
Senior Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) made 12 saves for Brown, including nine in the first half.
The Bears continue action on Wednesday, April 20, when it hosts Yale at 4:00 p.m.
