BOSTON, MA - The Brown women's lacrosse team (5-3) dropped a 13-12 decision to Boston University in a non-league game on Wednesday afternoon in Boston.
The Terriers quickly grabbed a 3-0 lead during the first four minutes of the game. However, Brown took a 4-3 lead with 18:19 remaining in the first half on goals by senior Laurel Pierpont (Jacksonville, FL), sophomore Kate Staley (Needham, MA), junior Kenley Bradstreet (Southboro, MA), and freshman Jen Redd (Towson, MD), assisted by Bradstreet.
BU then tied the game with 13:58 left before the intermission, before senior Christine Anneberg (Denver, CO), Staley, and Anneberg again, from Staley, brought the score to 7-4 in favor of the Bears with 9:18 left in the half.
The Terriers added two goals to cut Brown's lead to 7-6, but Staley scored for Brown with 2:29 remaining before the break, as the Bears held onto an 8-6 lead heading into halftime.
BU opened the second half with back-to-back goals to tie the game at 8-8, but junior Kierstan Carlson (Medford Lakes, NJ) connected with junior Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD) as Brown grabbed a 9-8 lead with 26:17 left in the game. The Terriers added two more goals to take a 10-9 lead, but Bradstreet added back-to-back goals for Brown less than two minutes apart as the Bears regained the one-goal advantage, 11-10.
However, the Terriers outscored Brown 3-1 in the final 20:00 of the game, taking the 13-12 win.
In net for the Bears, junior Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) recorded seven saves. Brown continues action on Friday, April 16, when it hosts Cornell in a 5:00 p.m. Ivy League contest.
