Providence, RI - The Brown women's lacrosse team (4-2, 1-1) dropped an 18-11 decision to #11 Dartmouth (5-2, 3-0) in an Ivy League contest Sunday afternoon at Stevenson Field.

The two teams traded goals three times during the opening 11:49 as senior Christine Anneberg (Denver, CO) scored two goals and junior Kierstan Carlson (Medford Lakes, NJ) added one goal during the span for Brown.

However, Dartmouth then went on a 4-1 run over the next 8:21 as sophomore Kate Staley (Needham, MA) scored for Brown with 9:50 remaining in the half to cut Dartmouth's lead to 7-4. The Bears could get no closer before the intermission, as the Big Green reeled off six straight goals to take a 13-4 lead with 3:57 left in the half.

Staley added her second of the game with 1:57 remaining, while junior Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD) scored with 43 seconds left before half-time, cutting Dartmouth's lead to 13-6, but the Big Green added one more tally with 10 seconds left to grab a 14-6 lead heading into the final 30:00.

The Bears played a much stronger second half, outscoring Dartmouth 5-4 in the period, but the Big Green held on for the 18-11 win. Freshman Jen Redd (Towson, MD) opened the scoring in the second half, notching an unassisted goal just 4:01 into the half. The two teams then traded goals two times over the next 15:30 as senior Emily Blanton (Shaker Heights, OH) scored twice for Brown during that span, bringing the score to 16-9 with 10:29 left to play.

Dartmouth added back-to-back tallies just 1:04 apart to take an 18-9 lead with 8:13 remaining in the game, but Brown responded with two goals of its own for the final 18-11. Passano assisted a goal from sophomore Ashley Holden (Alexandria, VA) with 2:26 remaining, while Staley added the Bears' final goal with just one second left on the clock, off a great transition feed from Anneberg.

In net for Brown, junior Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) made six saves in the first half, while sophomore Jessica McNell (Darien, CT) notched eight saves in the second half. , Brown continues action on Friday, April 9 when it travels to Columbia for a 7:00 p.m. game.
