HANOVER, NH - The Brown women's lacrosse team (2-6, 0-1) dropped an 18-8 decision to #6 Dartmouth (7-0, 3-0) in its 2005 Ivy opener on Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field.
The Big Green opened the contest with five goals, before senior Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD) answered for the Bears. Dartmouth quickly got one back and held onto a 6-1 lead with 11:42 left in the first half.
A goal by junior Kate Staley (Needham, MA) was followed by three Dartmouth tallies, before sophomore Amie Biros (Bethesda, MD) closed the half with her first of three goals. The Big Green headed into the break leading 9-3 and 13-9 in shots.
Brown, however, came out and scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the second half to close the gap to 10-6. But back-to-back Dartmouth free position goals, increased their lead to 12-6 with just over 20 minutes left to play.
Biros scored with 19:56 left to bring the Bears within six at 12-7, but the Big Green tallied the next four goals to take a 16-7 lead with 7:10 remaining. Dartmouth finished with a 31-20 edge in shots and a 33-14 advantage in ground balls.
Senior Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) posted nine saves in net for the Bears, who return to action this Saturday, April 9, when they host Columbia at 11:00 a.m.
