SYRACUSE, NY - The Brown University women's lacrosse team (2-5) dropped a 19-6 decision to #17 Syracuse on Wednesday night in Syracuse, NY. The Bears were led by three different players, who each scored two goals, while senior Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) recorded 15 saves in net.
The two teams traded goals to open the game with sophomore Amie Biros (Bethesda, MD) notched a goal for Brown at 6:22 of the contest. However, Syracuse scored back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart to take a 3-1 lead, and never looked back.
Junior Kate Staley (Needham, MA) brought the Bears to within one, 3-2, at 10:27 of the first, but that was as close as Brown would get as the Orange scored two more to take a 5-2 lead before the midway point of the first half.
Senior Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD) scored her 12th of the year just 28 seconds later, and then traded goals with Syracuse during a 36-second span for a 6-4 score at 16:06. Syracuse put the game out of reach with six straight goals to close the half, taking a 12-4 lead into the break.
Staley netted her second of the game just 1:17 into the second half, but the Orange reeled off seven straight goals before Biros netted her second of the game with 13 seconds remaining for the 19-6 final.
Southard stopped 15 shots in net, as Brown was outshot 45-13. The Bears continue action on Saturday, April 2, when they take on Dartmouth in their 2005 Ivy Opener in Hanover, NH.
