WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The Brown women's lacrosse team (4-1) used a 5-1 run to open the second half and break a 6-6 tie en route to a 13-11 win over Monmouth University (4-3) on Wednesday afternoon. Sohpomore Kate Staley (Needham, MA) led Brown with three goals, while sophomore Ashley Holden (Alexandria, VA) notched one goal and three assists.

With the contest tied 6-6, sophomore Meg Sullivan (Garden City, NY) scored on an assist from senior Christine Anneberg (Denver, CO) just 1:19 into the second half to take a 7-6 lead. Staley increased the Bears' lead to two goals with an unassisted tally just 3:30 later. The Hawks trimmed the lead to 8-7 7:22 into the half, but Staley found the back of the cage just 26 seconds later and goals by Sullivan (16:05 remaining ) and junior Kenley Bradstreet (Southboro, MA) (13:39 remaining ) increased Brown's cushion to 11-7.

Monmouth added two goals to cut Brown's lead to 11-9, but could not net the equalizer as the Bears earned the 13-11 win.

Brown got on the board in the opening minutes at senior Laurel Pierpont Jacksonville, FL) scored just 29 seconds into the contest. Less than five minutes into the game, Brown pushed the lead to 2-0 as Staley scored on an assist from junior Sarah Passano (Baltimore, MD) with 25:47 left in the half. The Hawks answered with two goals of their own to even the score at 2-2.

The two teams traded goals for a 3-3 score, but Brown took a 5-3 lead on goals by junior Kierstan Carlson (Medford, NJ) and freshman Amie Biros (Bethesda, MD), with 15:37 and 13:03 remaining, respectively.

Again, Monmouth responded, taking a 6-5 lead with three unanswered goals. However, Holden scored off an assist from senior Ashley Branca (Wyndmoor, PA) with 53 seconds left before half-time to send the teams into the break knotted at 6-6, setting up Brown's 5-1 second half run to seal the win.

In net for Brown, sophomore Jessica McNell (Darien, CT) stopped eight shots in her collegiate debut. The Bears return to action, Sunday, April 4, when they host Dartmouth in a 1:00 p.m. Ivy League game. . Brown (4-1) vs. Monmouth (4-3)
