Women's Laxers Come Back From Three-Goal Deficit, But Fall to Dartmouth, 7-6

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown women's lacrosse team (2-3, 0-1) dropped a heartbreaking, 7-6 decision to #12 Dartmouth (3-3, 2-1) in the Bears' Ivy Opener at Stevenson Field on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Meredith Goodell (Baltimore, MD) gave Brown a 1-0 lead just 18 seconds into the contest. Junior Bekah Rottenberg (Colrain, MA) won the opening draw and found Goodell for the early lead.

However, the Big Green responded less than two minutes later and then tallied three more over the next 10 minutes to take a 4-1 lead with 19:53 remaining in the first half. Despite several scoring chances on each end of the field through the remainder of the first half, neither team could capitalize.

The Bears opened the second half with three unanswered goals during the first 11:25 to knot the contest at 4-4. Sophomore Christine Anneberg (Denver, CO) started the comeback with a goal at the 3:57 mark, followed by a goal from classmate Katie Russell (San Francisco, CA) at the 6:05 mark. Sophomore Katie Zabel (Ellicott City, MD) assisted on each of those goals, while Rottenberg scored on a free position at 11:25 to tie the contest at 4-4.

The Big Green responded less than five minutes later to regain their lead, but Rottenberg and Goodell scored 1:54 apart to give the Bears a 6-5 lead, their first since the opening minute, with 10:30 left to play.

Dartmouth's Lana Smith scored with 5:29 remaining in the game to finish the game for the Big Green.

In net, senior Niki Caggiano (Freeport, NY) made 11 saves.

The Bears continue action on Wednesday when the they travel to Durham, NH to face The University of New Hampshire in a 3:30 p.m. contest. Dartmouth (3-3, 2-1 Ivy) 4 3 - 7
