Brown Women's Lacrosse Falls to Cal, 11-5

Berkeley, CA - The Brown women's lacrosse team dropped an 11-5 decision to Cal on Wednesday afternoon, falling to 1-4 on the season. Senior Bekah Rottenberg (Colrain, MA) led the Bears with two goals, while senior Maggie Connolly (Manhasset, NY) notched two assists.
Brown took an early 1-0 lead on Rottenberg's first goal of the game off a feed from Connolly at 3:52 of the first half. However, Cal scored three goals straight to take a 3-1 lead with 7:44 remaining in the half. The Bears responded 13 seconds later on a goal by freshman Kate Staley (Needham, MA), and tied the game at 3-3 just 2:29 after that with Rottenberg's second goal.
However, Cal scored two more goals before the end of the first half, holding onto a 5-3 lead at the break. Cal opened the second half scoring six straight goals, taking an 11-3 lead with 4:34 remaining. The Bears got two more goals on the board as junior Emily Blanton (Shaker Heights, OH) and freshman Meg Sullivan (Garden City, NY) scored 36 seconds apart for the final 11-5 score.
In net, sophomore Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) made 11 saves for the Bears, who continue action on Sunday, April 6, taking on Ivy foe Dartmouth at 1:00 p.m. in Hanover.
