Providence, RI - Sophomore Jen Redd (Towson, MD) scored two goals as the Brown women's lacrosse team (1-1) rebounded from Saturday's loss to Holy Cross with a 4-0 victory over visiting Quinnipiac (0-2) on a cold and rainy Tuesday afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. The game was called with 10:11 remaining in the game because of the inclimate weather posing a threat to the student-athletes.
Brown scored all four of its goals in the first half of the contest, outshooting the Bobcats 10-1 for the game. Junior Kate Staley (Needham, MA), who had three goals against Holy Cross, scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal 5:08 into the contest and the Bears never looked back.
Redd added her first goal at 7:18 of the contest to give Brown a 2-0 lead, and then scored again off a pass from freshman Ali Holland (Garden City, NY) to give Brown a 3-0 lead at 19:20.
Sophomore Amie Biros (Bethesda, MD) capped the scoring with 7:09 left in the half to give Brown a 4-0 lead heading into the break.
The Bears had numerous chances to score in the second half, but couldn't increase their lead. The officiating crew called the game with 10:11 left to play due to the weather as Brown picked up its first win of the season.
In goal, senior co-captain Julia Southard (Manhasset, NY) was forced to make just one save, while picking up her first career shutout.
