Women's Lax Remains Undefeated After 11-8 Triumph at Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. – Despite a wintry mix settling on Kittredge Field, the Brown women's lacrosse team (7-0) remained undefeated with an 11-8 triumph over Colorado (4-5) on Saturday night.  After a 9-0 Brown lead at the half, the Bears had to withstand a furious second half rally from the Buffs to hang on for their seventh consecutive victory to open the season.

Senior Bre Hudgins (Syracuse, N.Y.) recorded her sixth consecutive hat trick of the season after a four-goal performance to run her total to a team-high 24 goals.  Goaltender Kellie Roddy (Poway, Calif.) notched her seventh victory of the season after surrendering just one goal in 47:30 of action before giving way to Victoria Holland (Huntington, N.Y.).

The Bears looked to run away with the game early, as they netted the first 10 goals of the game including an 8-0 margin just 20 minutes into play.  Hudgins staked the Bears to a 1-0 lead just 50 seconds into the game before Grace Healy (Bellport, N.Y.)  recorded back-to-back markers to extend the cushion to three.

After a pair of goals each from Hudgins and Danielle Mastro (Endicott, N.Y.), Janie Gion (Northfield, Ill.) and Richael Walsh (Westwood, Mass.) continued the scoring with goals to put Brown up 9-0 at the half.

Hudgins opened the scoring in the second half with her fourth strike of the game to put the Bears up 10-0 before the Buffs responded by scoring eight of the next nine goals to make things interesting.  Marie Moore's hat trick cut the Brown lead to 10-4 with 7:31 to play, but Brown countered with a key insurance marker as Julia Carrellas (Middletown, R.I.) netted her third goal of the season to put the Bears up 11-4.

Four late goals, including three from Johnna Fusco, brought the Buffs within three with 27 seconds to play but time ran out on the home team as Brown opened its two-game Colorado road trip with the win.

Mastro and Healy each finished with two assists, while Hudgins led the Bears with three draw controls.

Brown returns to action on Monday afternoon to take on the Pioneers of Denver at 4 p.m.
