Women's Lax Opens Ivy Play at Columbia

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After convincing victories over Iona and Sacred Heart last weekend, the Brown women's lacrosse team opens up Ivy play with a battle against Columbia on Saturday at Robert K. Kraft Field. 

 

The Bears look to improve on a 16-0 all-time record against the Lions, including an 11-10, triple overtime victory in the most recent matchup last year.

HUDGINS NETS #100
Senior attack Bre Hudgins (Syracuse, N.Y.) potted the 100th goal of her career on Sunday against Sacred Heart.

 

CAREER HIGH FOR MASTRO
Danielle Mastro (Endicott, N.Y.) eclipsed her single-game high of three goals, previously recorded on March 25, 2012 versus Stanford, with a four-goal outburst versus Iona on Saturday.

 

AN EMERGING TOY
After being held scoreless last season, sophomore Lauren Toy (Kentfield, Calif.) opened 2014 with back-to-back hat tricks this past weekend against Iona and Sacred Heart.

 

LOCKDOWN DEFENSE
Through two games, the Bears rank ninth overall in scoring defense, surrendering just five goals per game.

 

LUCKY 13
With a 17-4 and 19-6 wins in their first two contests, Brown's 13-goal average margin of victory ranks seventh overall in the nation.

 

SCOUTING THE LIONS
Columbia enters Saturday's Ivy contest at 1-0 after a 20-11 season-opening win over LIU-Brooklyn last Sunday.  The Lions got four goals each from Jessie Ambrose and Ashley Rinere, as well as hat tricks from Taylor Quinn, Kate Murphy, and Maggie Sinzer while Colleen Packer turned aside three shots in the win.  Columbia controlled possession throughout their opener, entering the weekend ranked second in the nation with 22 draw controls and 27 ground balls.
