PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown sophomore Kellie Roddy (Poway, CA) was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 3rd. Roddy was instrumental in helping lead Brown to a 2-0 week with wins over Columbia, 11-10 (3ot) and Manhattan (10-4). The Bears are off to a 3-0 record this spring, their best start in over 17 years. For the week, Roddy posted a 5.53 GAA and a .522 save percentage with 12 saves.
In Saturday's Ivy League opener against the Lions, Roddy recorded eight saves and three ground balls. She made five saves in the first half, while helping Brown jump out to a 5-0 lead, and then made a critical save in the third overtime, stopping Columbia leading scorer Kacie Johnson with 42 seconds left in the period. The Bears successfully cleared and then set up on the final offensive possession, which led to senior Lindsay Minges' (Rochester, NY) game-winner with two seconds remaining. Less than 24 hours later, Roddy helped the Bears post a victory over Manhattan, stopping four of five shots in 47:21, as Brown held a 9-1 lead over the Jaspers with 13 minutes left in the game.
Roddy and the rest of the Bears continue action on Saturday, March 9, with a 1:00 p.m. Ivy contest at Princeton.
