THE GAME: After four straight non-league contests, during which Brown posted a 3-1 record, the Bears resume Ivy League play this weekend against Dartmouth. It is the first of two straight games against the Ancient Eight, as Brown travels up I95 next weekend to meet Harvard.
LAST TIME OUT: The Bears used a complete team effort from defense to attack to post a 14-9 victory over Stanford last Sunday. Brown received goals from seven different players, including senior Julia Keller, sophomore Danielle Mastro, and freshman Alexandra Crerend, who all scored three times. Junior Lindsay Minges added two goals, while senior Kaela McGilloway, junior Tara Rooke, and sophomore Bre Hudgins all scored once. For McGilloway, the goal marked the 100th of her career, as she became the first Brown player since 1998 to reach the 100-goal milestone. She also added five assists, matching a career-high, to post six points. Freshman Kellie Roddy helped anchor the defense, stopping eight shots to earn her third straight win, while sophomore Erin Roos led the Bears with five ground balls and five draw controls. Minges added a team-high two caused turnovers, while Mastro and sophomore Grace Healy both had three draw controls, as Brown won 17 of 25 draws for the game.
ALL-TIME VS. DARTMOUTH: All-time, Brown is 11-26 against Dartmouth, following a 17-5 loss to the Big Green in Hanover, NH last season. Brown's last win over Dartmouth was in 2008 when the Bears earned an 8-5 win over the Big Green in Providence.
LAST MEETING VS. DARTMOUTH: In the 2011 meeting against the Big Green, the two teams were tied, 2-2, through the first 14 minutes of the game as Dartmouth's Courtney Bennett and Paris Waterman '11 each scored twice for their respective teams. However, the Big Green would score six straight over the next 16 minutes to take an 8-2 lead with 4:19 left in the first half. Two more Brown goals, scored by Bre Hudgins '14 and Waterman on free position shots, cut the lead to 8-4, but Dartmouth closed the half with three straight goals to head into the final 30 minutes with an 11-4 lead. The Big Green controlled much of the second half, scoring the first six goals of the half, taking a 17-4 lead with just over 10 minutes left to play. Julia Keller '12 tallied the final goal of the game with 6:04 left, assisted by Kaela McGilloway '12, to account for the 17-5 final. Waterman led Brown with three goals, while Kirsten Goldberg, Sarah Plumb, and Courtney Bennett all had 3-1-4 totals to lead the Big Green. Grace Healy '14 led Brown with 6 draw controls, while Sidney Jacobs '13 had a team-high three ground balls. Isabel Harvey '12 made five saves, allowing 11 goals in the first half, while Maggie Suprey '11 made seven saves, allowing six goals, in the second half.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Big Green enters Saturday's game following a 15-4 victory over Ivy rival Columbia. The win over the Lions came after Dartmouth suffered its first loss of the 2012 season, a 20-4 setback to #4 Florida. Senior Sarah Plumb currently leads the team in scoring with 28 points (19g, 9a), while senior Kirsten Goldberg has also tallied at least 20 points this year and ranks 2nd on the team with 21 (16g, 5a). Junior Hana Bowers (11g, 3a), sophomore Liz Calby (8g, 3a), and sophomore Lindsey Allard (7g, 6a) all also have posted double digits in points, while four other players have scored at least one goal. Sophomore Kristen Giovanniello leads the team with 23 ground balls, while Plumb has a team-high eight caused turnovers. Plumb also leads the team with 33 draw controls. Giovanniello has played the majority of time in net this season, starting all seven games, and has earned a .533 save percentage and an 8.10 goals against average with a 6-1 record.
