THE GAME: The Bears enter Sunday's game against Bryant following a 13-6 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday afternoon. Today's game, played between Rhode Island's only Division I women's lacrosse teams, will pit the in-state rivals against each other for the Ocean State Cup, which will be presented to the winning team by members of RILAX immediately following the game.
LAST TIME OUT: In Wednesday's win over Holy Cross, Brown's defense survived a barrage of shots from the Crusaders, who held a 1-0 lead, during the game's opening 15 minutes, allowing the offense to take over from there when a goal by junior Kaela McGilloway at 16:23 sparked a 7-0 Brown run. Senior Paris Waterman led the Bears with 4 points (3g, 1a), while junior Julia Keller (2g, 1a) added three points in the win. McGilloway and freshman Bre Hudgins also scored a pair of goals each, while senior Alexa Caldwell had a two-point game with a goal and an assist. Other goal scorers included freshman Danielle Mastro, and sophomores Lindsay Minges and Sidney Jacobs, who netted her first career goal. Freshman Grace Healy, who ranks 3rd in the nation in draw controls per game, continued her strength on the draw, leading Brown with three draw controls, while Caldwell added two. Caldwell and Jacobs both led Brown with three ground balls, while Caldwell had a team-high three caused turnovers. Junior Isabel Harvey recorded eight saves to earn the win, while senior Maggie Suprey stopped one shot in relief.
ALL-TIME VS. BRYANT: Brown is 2-0 all-time against the Bulldogs, having first met in 2009. The Bears won that meeting, played at Stevenson Field, 21-6, and then claimed last year's game, 19-4, to win the inagural Ocean State Cup.
