• Spring Academic All-Ivy Announced

    Providence, RI- The Ivy League released its spring list of Academic All-Ivy honorees, with 10 Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five males and five females were starters or key reserves on their respective varsity teams and carry a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
  • Kara Kelly Selected to Play in IWLCA North-South Senior All-Star Game

    Brown senior women's lacrosse standout Kara Kelly (Garden City, NY) has been selected to compete in the 2010 IWLCA Division I North-South Senior All-Star Game as part of the North Team. The contest will take place at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, PA on Saturday, June 12 at 12:00 noon. She is among a group of 40 senior student-athletes from Division I who were recognized with this honor in their final year of eligibility and one of five seniors from the Ivy League named to the squad. The North Team will be coached by Albany’s Lindsey Hart, while James Madison’s Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe will coach the South Team.

    Junior women’s lacrosse standout Paris Waterman (Newark, DE) was named 2010 First Team IWLCA North All-Region. One of 128 student-athletes from across the country honored, Waterman is one of 10 Ivy League student-athletes to earn First Team All-Region honors.
  • Bears Close Season with Loss to #5 Duke

    The Brown women's lacrosse team (7-8) closed out its 2010 season on Sunday morning with a 23-9 loss to #5 Duke. Sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) led the Bears with two goals and an assist, while seven other players also scored. With the nine goals, Brown finishes the season with 162 goals on the year, breaking a 19-year old school record for goals scored in a season (160). McGilloway also finished the year with 51 points, which ranks 7th all-time at Brown for points in a season, while her 36 goals also ranks 7th all-time at Brown. Both totals are the highest for a Bears' player since the 1996 season.

    Junior Paris Waterman (Newark, DE) and sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) of the Brown women’s lacrosse team have been selected to the 2010 All-Ivy women’s lacrosse team as selected by the League’s eight head coaches. Waterman was named First Team, while McGilloway earned a spot on the Second Team, as both are first-time selections.

    The Brown women's lacrosse team (7-7, 2-5) dropped a 19-5 decision to #6 Penn in the Bears' 2010 Ivy League finale. Junior Paris Waterman (Newark, DE) and sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) led Brown with a pair of goals each, while junior Alexa Caldwell (Middletown, DE) also scored.

  • Bears to Host Boston College on Senior Day

    The Brown women's lacrosse team (7-5) will host Boston College (9-4) in its final home game of the 2010 season on Sunday afternoon, April 18, at 1:00 p.m. The contest will also mark the final game at Stevenson Field for the four members of the Class of 2010: Molly McCarthy (Scituate, MA) and tri-captains Bethany Buzzell (Middletown, MD), Kara Kelly (Garden City, NY), and Kiki Manners (North Potomac, MD). Fans who can not make it to Providence for Sunday's contest can follow the game live on Brownbears.com with livestats, audio, and or video ($7.00).
  • Bears Fall To BC In Overtime, 9-8

    Hannah Alley scored the game-tying goal with 1:34 left in regulation and netted the game-winning goal with 11 seconds remaining in sudden death overtime to lead Boston College to a 9-8 victory over Brown at Stevenson Field in the final home game for the Bears. Paris Waterman and Kaela McGilloway led the Bears with two goals each. The wins lifts Boston College to 10-4 overall, while the Bears fall to 7-6 overall.

    The Bears enter Friday’s game against Cornell having won their previous three games; 19-4 over Bryant, 14-12 over Columbia, and 17-9 over Manhattan. Brown is 2-3 in Ivy League play and still in the hunt for a spot in the inaugural Ivy League Tournament pending results against Cornell and Penn and results involving Yale, Harvard, and Cornell.
  • Cornell Goal in Final Seconds Lifts Big Red to 10-9 Win over Bears

    Trailing, 9-6, with 8:17 remaining in the game, sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) scored three straight goals for Brown in a span of 6:02 to tie the game at 9-9 with 1:13 remaining in the contest. However, Cornell’s Kate Dewey would connect on a free position shot from the left of the center hash with just 1.5 seconds remaining to lift the Big Red (4-7, 3-3) to a 10-9 win over the Brown women’s lacrosse team (7-5, 2-4) on a raw Friday afternoon at Stevenson Field.

    Sophomores Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) and Isabel Harvey (Baltimore, MD) have earned Ivy League Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors, respectively, for their role in helping to lead Brown to a 3-0 week. The Bears won three games in a span of six days, all on the road, while improving to 7-4 on the season.

    Sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) notched a career-high 10 points, split evenly between goals and assists, to help lead Brown (7-4) to a 17-9 victory over Manhattan on Sunday morning at Gaelic Park. McGilloway’s 10- point performance capped off a week where the Bears’ leading scorer tallied 20 points (9g, 11a) in three games, all wins.

    Junior Paris Waterman (Newark, DE) led seven different goal scorers with five goals to help lead the Brown women’s lacrosse team (6-4, 2-3) to a 14-12 victory over Columbia (4-6, 0-5) on Saturday afternoon in New York. Her final two goals of the game were critical for the win, as they came within a span of two minutes and gave Brown a 14-10 lead after the Lions had made it a two-goal game with about 18 minutes remaining.

    The Brown women's lacrosse team (5-4, 1-3) will close out a stretch of three straight road games this weekend when it faces Columbia (4-5, 0-4) and Manhattan (1-9) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Bears, who are coming off Tuesday night's 19-4 victory over Bryant for the inaugural Ocean State Cup, will look to win consecutive games for the second time this season. Brown enters the game with sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) and junior Paris Waterman (Newark, DE) leading the offense with 49 combined points. McGilloway has 27 points (20g, 7a), while Waterman adds 22 (19g, 3a).

Trailing, 9-4, Brown attempted a late comeback, scoring three times in the final five minutes, but could get no closer than the final score.

Sophomore Kaela McGilloway (Sea Cliff, NY) led 11 different goal scorers with four goals, while senior Molly McCarthy (Scituate, MA) added three. Sophomores Julia Keller (Concord, MA) and Margaret Polanin (Chatham, NJ) each scored two times, while freshman Sasha Sassoon (London, England) notched a goal and two assists, as 13 different players posted at least one point in the win.

    The Bears, currently 2-0 in home games, host #13 Princeton in their 2010 Ivy opener. This marks the second straight year that Brown will open its Ivy schedule during this weekend, as the Bears earned an 12-8 win over Harvard in their 2009 Ivy opener on March 14th. Brown will look to post its second straight win, after claiming a 13-10 victory over Quinnipiac last Sunday. Against the Bobcats, sophomore Kaela McGilloway paced the offense with four goals and two assists, while freshman Lindsay Minges added three goals. Junior Paris Waterman also had two goals, while senior Molly McCarthy scored one and assisted two others. McCarthy also led the Bears with four ground balls and three draw controls, while Minges and junior Krissi Penikis each had three ground balls. Sophomore Isabel Harvey stopped five shots.
